I had the opportunity to visit with a gentlemen who has been with Nationwide Insurance since 1993. Fast forward 20 years later and his needs have changed, but his auto policy not so much. With 5 vehicles and 5 drivers, 3 of which are under 25 his insurance premiums have increased over the last few years.
He and I went over his policies, reviewed coverages and clarified things he had concerns about. He felt better about what he was getting for his money when he left the office, but I went further and re-quoted his policies from scratch.
Because of the peculiarities of the computerized rating software, it sometimes makes a person's policy less expensive if we write them a brand new policy. Mind you, this is not bait and switch reducing coverages, but putting in everything exactly as it were before and it spits out a better rate. Other times, the rate isn't as favorable. When that is the case, we just keep the client on the current policy.
In the end, re-writing his two auto policies next month are going to save him $722 every 6 months. Not bad for a 30 minute visit to the office with a company that has been On Your Side for 20 years!
